16ft Storage Container with Roller Door

€2,000.00

A 16ft storage container with roller door gives you lockable, weatherproof storage on a site that will not take a 20ft unit. The roller shutter runs up and over inside the frame, so you need no swing clearance in front of the opening. We confirm the finished internal dimensions, the shutter aperture and the condition grade of your unit in writing before dispatch, and we quote the container and the delivery together.

What is a 16ft storage container with roller door?

A 16ft storage container with roller door is a shortened steel container fitted with a roller shutter in place of the standard double cargo doors. You get the same Corten steel shell, the same marine plywood floor and the same corner castings for lifting, in a footprint about 4.9 m long instead of 6.06 m.

One thing to know up front: 16ft is not a standard length. ISO 668 fixes 10ft, 20ft, 40ft and 45ft, so a 16ft unit is cut down from a longer box and the new end is re-framed and sealed in the workshop. That is routine conversion work, and it is the reason we confirm the finished dimensions per unit rather than quote them from a catalogue. Our guide to shipping container dimensions covers the standard sizes if you are still choosing.

Why choose a roller door instead of cargo doors?

The roller shutter is the point of this unit. It lifts into the roof space inside the container, so nothing swings out into the yard.

  • No swing clearance. A pair of standard cargo doors needs roughly 2 m of clear ground in front of them. A shutter needs none, which matters against a wall, a fence or a parking bay.
  • Quicker daily access. One person opens a shutter with one hand. Cargo doors need both locking bars released and both leaves swung and pinned.
  • Partial opening. You can raise a shutter halfway to reach tools without exposing the whole load to weather.
  • The trade-off. A shutter is not as strong as two ISO cargo doors, and it is the part a thief will attack first. Specify the security package with it rather than after it: our notes on storage container security features set out what actually helps.

Who buys a 16ft unit?

Almost always someone whose site will not take 6 m of container, or whose load does not justify it. Typical cases:

  • Trade storage in a yard or compound where a 20ft unit blocks the turning circle.
  • Groundworks and landscaping tools that need a short, secure box close to the work.
  • Equipment and archive storage behind a commercial unit, where planning or a lease restricts the footprint.
  • Sports clubs, allotments and small farms storing machinery out of the weather.

If the shape of your load is the open question rather than the site, read our piece on whether container storage units suit storage before you commit to a length.

What to check before you order a 16ft storage container with roller door

Four things decide whether the unit works on the day it lands.

  • The shutter aperture. Ask for the clear width and height of the opening, not the external dimensions. Pallets and ride-on machinery are won or lost on that figure.
  • The condition grade. We state the grade in writing and send photographs of the actual unit. Our comparison of new against used containers explains what each grade means in practice.
  • The ground. The unit must sit level on load bearing ground, usually on pads or sleepers under the four corners. Our site preparation guide has the checklist.
  • The approach. A shortened container still arrives on a full size vehicle. Confirm gate widths, turning space and overhead cables with us before we book transport.

Price and delivery

The listed figure is a starting point for a unit of this specification. Condition, the shutter and ironmongery you choose, and the delivery distance all move it, which is why we price the container and the transport together rather than publishing a flat rate. Our 2026 container price guide explains the ranges across Europe and what shifts them.

Delivery is normally by tilt bed vehicle, with the container slid off on chains, or by crane where the position cannot be reached directly. We agree the vehicle and the drop position with you before the unit leaves.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 16ft container watertight?

Yes, when the conversion is done properly. The cut end is re-framed, welded and sealed, and the shutter is fitted into a framed aperture with weather seals. We check the roof, the seals and the shutter travel before dispatch.

Can a 16ft unit be moved again later?

Yes. The corner castings are retained, so the unit lifts and travels like any other container. Keep the four corners clear and accessible.

Can it still be shipped as cargo?

No. A shortened and modified unit is no longer a certified intermodal container, so it will not carry a valid plate under the International Convention for Safe Containers. It is built for static storage and road transport.

Can you add shelving, lighting or ventilation?

Yes, and it costs less fitted at the workshop than retrofitted on your site. See the other container modifications we do regularly.

What else do you stock in short lengths?

Browse the standard container range, or tell us the load and the site and we will say which length fits.
